In the 7th, Fleetwood plated 2 runs to take the lead. That said, they perhaps should have scored many more. First, with Carlos Beltran on 3rd base and nobody out, Beltran was thrown out at home on a Chris Iannetta grounder. Following a Jim Edmonds walk and a Howie Kendrick RBI single, Edmonds was thrown out at home on a Jason Bartlett groundout. Nick Markakis was up next, and he delivered a double. The hit scored Kendrick, but Bartlett was thrown out at home to end the inning. That means ALL THREE outs in the inning came at home plate! Wow.Still trailing 2-1 in the 8th, Los Angeles exploded against Fleetwood reliever Hong-Chih Kuo. Josh Hamilton started the scoring with a one-out homer. Manny Ramirez followed with a double, and then scored when Aramis Ramirez delivered an RBI single. Kevin Millar then drew a walk, and advanced to second (with Aramis moving to third) on a Kuo wild pitch. Following an intentional walk to Ivan Rodriguez, Jamey Carroll capped the inning with a two-out, two-run single. Los Angeles now led 5-2.
In the 9th, Carlos Beltran led off with a double. That brought Geoff Geary into the game again, and he struck out Chris Iannetta for the inning's first out. Cody Ross smashed a home run next, however, and the Tigers saw their lead shrink to just one run.
Pinch-hitter Rafael Furcal drew a walk, putting the tying run on base. After pinch-hitter Ryan Doumit struck out for the inning's second out, Nick Markakis came through with a single. Furcal tried to advance to third on throw, but was nailed for the game's final out.
This costly baserunning out was a fitting end given Fleetwood's struggles on the basepaths all game. Given that I had my computer manager's baserunning setting set to "conservative", I guess I should just chalk this game up as bad luck.

19,733 fans were treated to a fine game at Comerica Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Los Angeles Tigers won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Los Angeles won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 8th inning when
they scored 4 runs on 4 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Jamey
Carroll who came through for the home fans when he slapped a one-base hit
scoring two baserunners. Fleetwood had a chance in the 9th but they came up
short.
The winning pitcher was Sean Marshall(1-1) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings. Geoff Geary was credited with his 8th save. Hong-Chih Kuo(1-2)
suffered the loss in relief. He gave up 4 runs in 1 and 2/3 innings and saw
his ERA jump from 3.48 to 6.00.
Despite losing Rube Foster was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over
this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one
of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
