More interestingly, Brooklyn starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano pitched 7 no-hit innings before exiting the game. Jon Rauch and Mariano Rivera then combined to throw a no-hit 8th inning, putting the Bulldogs just 3 outs away from a no-hitter.Rivera came back out for the 9th inning, and the crowd was on its feet. Pinch-hitter Rafael Furcal dampened the mood, however, with a double to lead off the inning. The Walkers would pick up two more hits and a walk in the inning, scoring 2 runs against Rivera before Carlos Beltran hit into a double play to end the game.
Nevertheless, it was a most impressive pitching performance for Brooklyn in front of their hometown fans.

Carlos Zambrano went 7 strong innings as the Brooklyn Bulldogs beat the
Fleetwood Walkers by a score of 5 to 2.
Brooklyn promptly took the lead in their half of the first with 3 runs on 3
hits. Emmanuel Burriss led off the inning for Brooklyn when he tripled.
Juan Uribe got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.
Garrett Atkins then banged out a single. After another out, Ryan Church
stepped in and he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 4th of the
season). That scoring would be all that was needed. Fleetwood made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
The victory was credited to Zambrano(8-2) who went 7 innings, allowing no
runs. Zack Greinke(4-1) was the loser. He surrendered 5 runs in 7 innings
and saw his ERA increase from 3.24 to 3.79.
Despite losing Rube Foster was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over
this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one
of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
