Santana, though, was even better. He retired the first 12 batters he faced in order, and did not allow a hit until the 6th inning. In the 7th, he allowed a lead-off single and a stolen base to Daric Barton, putting the tying run on 2nd base. After striking out Jose Lopez, Jack Cust came to the plate.Despite Santana's strong preformance thus far, my computer manager decided to bring in lefty J.P. Howell to face Jack Cust. The move gave my team the platoon advantage, and Cust lined into a double play to end the threat.
Howell walked Nick Swisher to lead off the 8th, prompting my manager to bring in Hong-Chih Kuo. Kuo struck out the next two Malibu batters, and retired a third with a flyball out.
Clinging to a 1-0 lead, the Walkers scored a much-needed insurance run when David Wright followed a lead-off Nick Markakis double with an RBI single.Kuo remained in the game in the 9th, and struck out the first two batters of the inning. Daric Barton brought the tying run to the plate with a 2-out walk, but Jose Lopez grounded out to end the game. The final score was 2-0, and Ervin Santana had earned a much-deserved win and Kuo a much-deserved save.

Ervin Santana took a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Petco Park as the
Fleetwood Walkers beat the Malibu Flames 2 to 0.
Santana(4-1) gave Fleetwood a solid outing. He didn't allow much, just 2 hits
and no walks in 6 and 1/3 innings lowering his ERA to 1.97. The right-handed
Santana lost his no-hit bid when Martin Prado singled with one out in the 6th
inning. Fleetwood out-hit Malibu for the game, 5 hits to 2.
Santana was helped out by Hong-Chih Kuo who recorded his 1st save. Bronson
Arroyo(1-4) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 8 innings and surrendered
