Giving Thanks

Looking back...

Fleetwood's 2006 season came to a heart-breaking conclusion with its loss to Metropolis in the 2006 NLCS. In retrospect, though, there is still much to be thankful for.

First, Fleetwood ended its rebuilding phase and established itself as a legitimate contender in BRASSball's National League going forward.

Second, the team saw two of its young players (Miguel Cabrera, David Wright) establish themselves as up-and-coming BRASSball stars...stars to build around long-term.

Third, the team's thrilling 21-game winning streak to end the regular season.

And finally, the team also has a brighter future in store...complete with another wave of promising prospects (Ryan Zimmerman, Conor Jackson, Kenji Johjima, Jason Kubel, Chad Billingsley, Daisuke Matsuzaka), a robust bank account (the highest in BRASSball), and more than its fair share of picks in the upcoming annual draft.

Add it all up, and Fleetwood's legion of fans has every reason to view 2006 as not a disappointing ending, but rather a prelude to even better times to come.

Turning the page...

The first step in moving ahead will be assessing the team's strengths and weaknesses, and begin planning and acting accordingly. Fleetwood's depth in young talent, cash, and draft picks should provide ample "hot stove" ammunition to reload for another pennant run in 2007.
