Despite this early scoring, each team's pitchers would control the game from this point onward. In fact, the two teams would combine for just 1 more run during the remainder of the game.The Walkers were the team fortunate enough to grab that run, taking the lead when Todd Wellemeyer uncorked a wild-pitch in the 6th with runners on 2nd and 3rd. He pitched out of that jam without allowing another run, but the damage had been done.
In order to hold the lead, my team brought in lefty J.P. Howell to face Malibu's Jack Cust with one on and one out in the 8th. Howell retired Cust, and then Swisher to end the frame. The Walkers then brought in B.J. Ryan for the 9th, and he pitched a perfect frame. With the 5-4 win, Fleetwood had indeed earned the 4-game sweep.
