August 9, 2006: Great Cesar's Ghost!

Fleetwood welcomed New Hampshire to John Locke Field for a four-game set. Pitching for the Derry Heifers was lefty Chris Capuano, while the Walkers countered with righty A.J. Burnett.

New Hampshire grabbed an early lead with two runs in the 2nd inning. Cesar Izturis did his best Superman impersonation with an RBI single to score the first run, while ex-Walker Laynce Nix drove in the second run with an RBI single of his own.

Fleetwood put a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 3rd inning on a Derrek Lee double followed by a Miguel Cabrera RBI single.

New Hampshire countered in the 4th inning with another run. Rondell White and the great Cesar Izturis started the inning with back-to-back singles. Laynce Nix then grounded into a double play, killing the rally but scoring White to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Derry Heifers.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, struggling Fleetwood catcher J.D. Closser connected for a home run, cutting New Hampshire's lead to 3-2.

The game remained scoreless following this home run until the 7th inning, when Fleetwood tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Jim Edmonds. Neither team scored a run in the 8th or 9th innings, and the game went into extra frames.

In the top of the 10th inning, New Hampshire scored twice, first on an RBI double by Mike Sweeney and then again on a passed ball by Fleetwood reliever Fernando Cabrera. In the bottom of the 10th, New Hampshire's Huston Street held Fleetwood scoreless and the game was over.

The Derry Heifers had won 5-3 in 10 innings, handing the Walkers their second consecutive home loss. If Fleetwood hoped to keep pace with Maine for the NL Central divisional crown, it would need to refind its rhythm.
