June 5, 2006: Southpaw Struggles

Games featuring left-handed starters had not gone well for the Fleetwood Walkers all season. When facing a lefty starter, Fleetwood's record was just 5-9 (versus 30-12 against righties). And as for the lone left-handed starter on its own roster, Mark Buehrle entered June with just a 3-4 record and a 5.63 ERA.

This game saw a combination of both trends, and the results were sadly predictable for Fleetwood's fans. First, Charm City's John Halama pitched a great game, holding Fleetwood's lineup to just 2 runs in 8.1 innings. Meanwhile, Fleetwood's Mark Buerhle continued to struggle. He allowed two runs in the 1st inning and 4 runs in 6.2 innings.

These performances resulted in a 6-2 win for Charm City, and dropped Fleetwood's record against left-handed pitchers to just 5-10. Tomorrow would test the Walkers again, as the Dragoons would pitch another lefty in Brandon Claussen.
