Through 22 starts, A.J. Burnett's record stood at 18-4. In other words, he had earned a decision in every start...usually a good one, occasionally not, but always something definitive.
Knocked from the opener versus Port Richey in the 6th inning, it looked like Burnett would suffer his 5th loss of the season. All in all, he gave up 6 runs in 5.2 innings to the Everglades including a 2-run triple by (off all people) Bengie Molina. That hit sent Molina to the oxygen tank and Burnett to the showers.
Luckily for A.J., though, his teammates rarely go down without a fight. Down 6-3 entering the 8th, Bobby Crosby collected a base hit to drive in Fleetwood's first run of the inning. When Marcus Giles followed two batters later with a 2-run single of his own, Fleetwood had tied the game and taken Burnett off the hook for his first no-decision of the season.After Fleetwood reliever Arthur Rhodes pitched a scoreless top of the 9th, Miguel Cabrera quickly ended the game with a walk-off home run to lead off the bottom of the inning. The game was over, and the Walkers had earned a comeback victory. Final score: Port Richey 6, Fleetwood 7.
